So your IPOD is ideal for jamming with some tunes on the bus, or at the gym, but what about when you get home and you've got all those tunes stored on your IPOD but want to hear it loud in your apartment?

Altec lansing made the first portable speaker system for the IPOD and has since improved on it with the Inmotion iM3 system. The unit itself isn't any bigger then a paper back size book, it's self-standing, has an easy cradle for your IPOD and now even offers a remote control.

So assuming you're an iPod owner, which you probably are if you're reading this or are considering on purchasing one, lets look at the benefits of the altec lansing inmotion system.

First off, of course these speakers provide great sound but the real benefit here is being able to use your iPod for both a portable and in home source of music. No need for a mini system and your iPod. Just place your iPod in the cradle when you get home and you've got loud listening all night.

The iM3 offers a secondary jack for you to plug in another device such as a Laptop or desktop computer so they double as a self amplified speaker system. You'll be surprised for such a small device it provides a very big sound.

Now out of the box the altec lansing inmotion system runs on batteries but there is an international AC adapter included with the unit (make sure you choose the correct plug when you're setting it up). While the battery life is exceptional (about 24 hours off of 4 AA batteries) it's sometimes nice to have an alternative source of power especially if your at the cottage or just don't like batteries.

Other features like auto shutdown, and the plush carrying case that comes with the iM3 are nice add-ons but really the big plug for the Altec lansing inmotion is the sound for the size. You can't go wrong it's the perfect mate for the iPod both in color scheme and size. While this little unit may not be the best speaker system for Rap or Dance enthusiast if you're a well-rounded music listener you'll be very surprised!
