iPod Speakers

iPod Speakers image

The best accessory for an iPod “I think” ( and take that with a grain of salt) has to be iPod Speakers. You’re on the bus on the way home from work enjoying some tunes with your iPod and you get home. You pop the iPod in the dock of your speakers and voila you have a mini system as well as a portable mp3 player!

There’s been an introduction of a few iPod speaker systems over the last couple of years, each consisting of a single unit with a cradle or dock to place your iPod in then the speaker system  being part of that. Sound confusing? Just take a peek at the picture below of the Altec Lansing iMation im3 speaker system.

You can see from the image above that the Altec system has a cradle where you place your iPod and the speaker system reads the tunes from there. Of course we can't expect iPod speakers to blow us out of the water with volume level, but most of the sets available will exceed your expectations.

For music types, almost anything besides Rap or intense dance music sounds good, and some of the standard features you can expect are a remote control, optional battery or AC adapter operation.

Now to a few of the speaker systems available:

Altec Lansing im3: The Altec system as picture above is the newest one out. It's a re-design on a previous unit. Altec is best known for manufacturing self amplified speakers for PC's, MAC's and other portable electronics so it was only natural that they would come out with a product like this. The im3 offers a remote control, great sound from a slim speaker design, and includes an international AC adapter power adapter in the box. We have a more detailed article on the Altec Lansing inmotion system here.

JBL onstage: JBL being a brilliant speaker manufacturer is another company that has decided to take it's stab at a small portable iPod speaker system. Something neat that they integrated was the Onstage charges your iPod while it's placed in the cradle. Either via wall adapter or plugged into your computer. While this system doesn't include a remote the sound is there to make up for the difference. Here is a link to some more detailed info on the JBL onstage iPod speakers.

Bose sound dock: So now we're at the creme de la creme of iPod speakers. The Bose sound dock offers all the renowned Bose sound in an ity bity area. Comes with a thin style remote that controls all the basic features. Of course this unit looks cool (see picture below). Like the JBL system the Sound dock charges your iPod while you listen without any additional cables or chargers. Check out more detailed info on the Bose Sound Dock here.
