iTrip

As we mentioned in our iPod FM transmitter article, the iTrip is old technolgy spiced up for todays MP3 players, or more precisely the iPod rather then older CD changers. Quite simply put, the iTrip offers a simple way to play your Ipods tunes over your car radio. how does it do this you ask? By plugging into your iPod the unit broadcasts your tunes over a pre determined FM station, (i.e. 87.9 FM the preset configuration of the iTrip out of the box). By tuning into the same station on your car radio you pickup the signal being transmitted by the unit, and the music plays through your car stereo as it it were a radio station.

The griffin unit (itrip is made by Griffing technolgies) has an unlimited number of FM bands to select from, as mentioned above, out of the box it only works on 87.9 FM, but after a couple minutes of your time and quick installation of the supplied CD on your iPod you can set the unit to broadcast on any station. Of course it's ideal to pick a station that's static, and not already a radio station in your home town.

While it should be mentioned that since this unit uses FM radio to broadcast sound, users shouldn't expect crystal clear audio quality. A sound similar to a local FM radio station should be expected, from around the net there have been some complaints that at higher volumes there can be a small hiss heard, but depending on how sound tight your car is this may not be a concern to you.

The big pros of the iTrip are obvious, easy installation, availability of your iPod entire music library in your car, no difficult to install auxillary plugs etc. for your car stereo. This is the perfect accessory for anyone who spends a lot of time commuting or on the road, and just doesn't enjoy the ad filled airplay of regular FM radio. It's a small unit that fits right on top of your iPod, and takes up no extra space in your vehicle. For the price this is an item hard to beat for the features, check out the iTrip below.
